Tree Mandala

Tree Mandala. This eco-art piece was inspired fundamentally by my increasing reliance on and connection with trees, but also an interview I was watching last night with Richard Powers who wrote the extraordinary Pulitzer Prize winning The Overstory. He writes about the need to rewrite our relationship with nature, which lies at the heart of my own mission to share the need for us all to become more present and attentive to what nature is sharing with us.
So, I found myself wishing I could contribute and the thought arose: Could I turn my fav tree pic into a fractal, and geometric shape to visually communicate our interconnectedness? Soon a mandala was appearing. It’s best seen/meditated on from a distance, rather than an up-close study of the detail. It came together effortlessly and I’m truly amazed by the artistic process when it aligns with the highest good. And nature appreciation and protection can only be good, right?
I decided to post this here in the Blog because it certainly dovetails with the mission of Art in Nature – Mindful Photography Workshops and the Blue Space Art website: to promote mindfulness in photography, raise environmental consciousness and appreciation by capturing and sharing the stunning beauty of the natural world.
Here's an extract from one The Overstory review in case you are considering it’s purchase: "Masterful novel, of seemingly unrelated stories which eventually intermingle in a dramatic, disturbing, even tragic plot. It’s overarching theme is about trees, their beauty and ageless presence, gradually growing in a sense of urgency to save them and protecting the environment from greedy relentless exploitation, if we are to save ourselves. We share 25% of DNA with them."
